Brands

Optional, but they change how your catalog reads and filters. What a brand is here, and when to skip them.

A brand is a name and a logo that products can point at. Unlike categories, brands are entirely optional — a product with no brand is unbranded, and a store can have none at all.

Create them on the Brands page. There are two fields: Name and Logo.

What a brand actually does

Three things, all in the shopper app:

  • Products show their brand on the product details screen.
  • The catalog can be filtered by brand in the console's product list.
  • Brand logos give a produce-and-staples catalog visual texture it otherwise lacks.

That's the whole feature. A brand carries no pricing, no stock and no rules.

When to skip them

Skip brands entirely if you sell:

  • Loose produce — "Bananas" has no brand, and inventing one is noise.
  • Your own preparations — a kitchen selling its own food is one brand, which is the store.
  • Under ~30 products — the filter earns nothing at that size.

Use them if you resell packaged goods. A grocery catalog of a few hundred items becomes much easier to work with when you can filter to one supplier's range.

Brands are a flat list — there's no hierarchy, no parent company, no sub-brand. One name, one logo.

Logos

Brand logos are rendered small and square. Two things that reliably work:

  • The official mark on a white or transparent background, with padding.
  • For house or unbranded lines, a plain monogram tile.

Consistency beats fidelity at this size. A set of logos that are all square with similar padding looks deliberate; a mix of wide wordmarks and tight icons looks broken, even when every individual file is correct.

Naming

Use the name a shopper would recognise on the packaging. Not the legal entity — Amul, not Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation. Products reference brands by name on import, so pick the spelling once and keep it.

Deleting a brand

Products referencing it become unbranded. They keep their name, price, stock, categories and images — they simply stop showing a brand, and drop out of that brand's filter. Nothing is lost beyond the association.
